I was out of town last weekend, so these are my favorite quotes from the past two weeks, mostly from shows currently on the air, but also other random things I happen to be watching.
Mercy Street Major McBurney: See that he sees to it. Dr. Hale: And I’ll see that she sees to seeing to that …sir.
Mary: A better world is coming.
Black Sails Max: How could we all have sacrificed so much and none of us has anything to show for it?
Big Little Lies Madeline:She wouldn’t leave if she knew I had cancer. Ed: Well, you don’t have cancer. Madeline: But, I’d be willing to get it.
Time After Time Wells: The man who raises his fists first is the man out of ideas.
Supergirl Kara: Supergirl is what I can do. Kara is who I am.
Travelers Mrs. Bloom: I know what happened, dear. I’m from the future.
The Flash H.R.: I found my place. It’s standing here, with these people, against you.
Barry: Fear makes us do a lot of things that we shouldn’t.
This Is Us Randall: You got white doves? Beth: They don’t make black ones, Randall.
The Americans Claudia: Nothing scares those two. Gabriel: Everything scares those two.
Legion Syd: Who teaches us to be normal when we’re one of a kind?
The Vampire Diaries Stefan: Let me do this for you. Damon: No. Stefan: Then let me do this for me. Please.
These are my favorite quotes from the past week, mostly from shows currently on the air, but also other random things I happen to be watching.
Black Sails Madi: It will be difficult, but since when did we expect it to be anything else?
Israel: You don’t know, hmm? You don’t know? Why should I follow you if you don’t know? Why would anyone? I don’t give a shit what goes on in there. Fuck Flint. Don’t fuck Flint. Fuck Billy. Don’t fuck Billy. I don’t give a shit what you choose, but fucking choose! And don’t make me suffer the thinking. Worry ain’t a good look for a king. Not in a kingdom like this, where loyalty is in short supply.
Big Little Lies Madeline: I love my grudges. I tend to them like little pets.
Supergirl Winn: Holy Cadmus creme egg!
Mon-El: What do we do? Kara: We get up. Mon-El: Yeah, we do.
These are my favorite quotes from the past week, mostly from shows currently on the air, but also other random things I happen to be watching.
Mercy Street
Jimmy: If I’m not the black sheep, I hardly know what I’ll be.
Black Sails Flint: All life begins with violence and wailing.
Silver: We are at our least rational when we are at our most vulnerable.
The Royals Helena: Live your life. Chase whatever makes your heart race.
Jasper: What’s wrong with you? Sara Alice: The princess is leaving. What’s wrong with you?
Jasper: The princess is leaving.
Jasper: I know I hurt you, and I’m not expecting you to just run back into my arms but, if you leave this palace behind, don’t leave us behind. You’re my girl, Princess. And I’m gonna love you no matter what.
Big Little Lies Bonnie: None of us really see things as they are. We see things as we are.
Supergirl Kara: You can’t just put me in a wedding dress! Mr. Mxyzptlk: Why not? It’s Vera Wang.
Kara: You can’t force love, Mxyzptlk. You have to let it find you.
Earlier in the week, I posted my list of the returning shows I am excited about, so here are some new shows to check out.
1. One Day at a Time, the first season was released today, January 6th, on Netflix, stars Justina Machado, Rita Moreno, Isabella Gomez, Marcel Ruiz, Todd Grinnell, and Stephen Tobolowsky. A newly single Latina mother struggles to raise her teenage children with the help of her mother. It is a re-imagining of the 70s show of the same name, from Executive Producer Norman Lear. I have heard great things about this series and have already watched the first episode, which was really funny but also had a lot of heart. Once I finish writing this post, I plan to watch the rest of the episodes.
2. Taboo, premieres January 10th on FX Networks, stars Tom Hardy, Jessie Buckley, Oona Chaplin, David Hayman, Jonathan Pryce, Franka Potente, Jason Watkins, Jefferson Hall, Ed Hogg, Michael Kelly, Mark Gatiss, Nicholas Woodeson, Stephen Graham, and Tom Hollander. Set in 1814, Taboo follows James Keziah Delaney, a man who was believed to be long dead, but he returns home to London from Africa to inherit what is left of his father’s shipping empire and rebuild a life for himself. His father’s legacy has been ruined, and James must protect himself from enemies while discovering his family’s dark secrets. Even after reading that description, I do not really know what the show is about, but it stars Tom Hardy, so I am in.
3. Victoria, premieres January 15th on PBS, stars Jenna Coleman, Tom Hughes, Nell Hudson, Peter Bowles, Catherine Flemming, Daniela Holtz, Ferdinand Kingsley, Tommy Knight, Nigel Lindsay, Eve Myles, David Oakes, Adrian Schiller, Peter Firth, Alex Jennings, and Rufus Sewell. This series is a look at the early life of Britain’s Queen Victoria, from her accession to the throne at eighteen through to her marriage to Prince Albert. I loved the movie The Young Victoria with Emily Blunt, so I am not sure how I will feel about Jenna Coleman in the role, but I will give it a try. As I have said before, and will surely say again, I just find the history of the British monarchy fascinating, and will pretty much watch anything involving them.
4. SIX, premieres on History, stars Walton Goggins, Barry Sloane, Kyle Schmid, Juan Pablo Raba, Edwin Hodge, Dominic Adams, Brianne Davis, Nadine Velazquez, Jaylen Moore, Donny Boaz, and Nondumiso Tembe. This series is inspired by the real missions of Navy SEAL Team Six. Each season will be about a different mission, with the first season focusing on a 2014 mission to eliminate a Taliban leader in Afghanistan that goes awry when they uncover a U.S. citizen working with the terrorists. This was originally supposed to be released last summer, but it got delayed. I wrote about it then, and am still really excited about it. The cast is awesome, and I hope it will be a fantastic series.
