Enlisted

8 Servicewomen…

Since I gave you my list of favorite TV Servicemen for Veterans Day, I now present my favorite TV Servicewomen in honor of Independence Day.

1. Jill Perez – Enlisted, played by Angelique Cabral.
Perez is a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army assigned to a Rear Detachment Unit stationed at Fort McGee in Florida. She wants to be an Army Ranger and she smells like America.

2. Julia Richmond – Strike Back, played by Michelle Lukes.
Sergeant Richmond is the chief communication officer and field operative for Section 20, an elite covert British military intelligence and counter-terrorism unit originally formed within the Secret Intelligence Service.

3. Hollis Mann – NCIS, played by Susanna Thompson.
Before joining the Department of Defense, Hollis was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army and part of the Criminal Investigation Division.

4. Margaret ‘Hot Lips’ Houlihan – M.A.S.H., played by Loretta Swit.
Major Houlihan was a member of the United States Army Nurse Corps and in charge of all the nurses at the Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (M.A.S.H.) during the Korean War.

8 of My Favorite 2014 Episodes…

Here are my favorite episodes of television from the past year in no particular order. There is so much good television happening right now, that it took me a while to whittle down this list and I am sure I still forgot a few. I do not think that they are necessarily the BEST episodes from the year, just my favorites. Be forewarned, there are plenty of spoilers ahead.

1. The Good Wife “The Last Call” The death of Will Gardner was this year’s best kept secret and I have only recently started to get over the loss of this character. The episode dealt with the aftermath of that death and the performances were just brilliant. Not only did they kill off this beloved character, but they killed off the notion that a show can not survive without a love story.

2. Playing House “Bosephus and the Catfish” What’s not to love about a woman dressing up like a male trucker to make sure that her brother is not getting catfished by his new internet girlfriend?! I am beyond excited that the USA Network came to their senses and finally renewed this hilarious show! My goal for 2015 is to become best friends with Lennon Parham and Jessica St. Clair.

3. Orphan Black “Knowledge of Causes, and Secret Motion of Things” Holy Tilda Swinton, do I love this show! It took me forever to decide which was my favorite episode of season two but I finally settled on this one, mostly because I love watching Vic get beat up. This episode also had lots of Felix and Alison together, as well as Sarah pretending to be Alison pretending to be Donnie, which just makes me so happy.

4. Game of Thrones “The Watchers on the Wall” I loved that this episode focused solely on Jon Snow and the battle between the Night’s Watch and the Wildlings. Even though they are outnumbered, the black brothers must defend Castle Black from Mance Rayder’s massive army, who attack the fortress from the north, while another band of wildlings launches a surprise attack from the south of the Wall. It was epic and made me finally appreciate the amazingness of Kit Harington.

8 Servicemen…

Tuesday was Veteran’s Day, the anniversary of the signing of the armistice, which ended World War I, and a day where we remember and thank those who have served in the military. This is my list of my favorite TV servicemen.

1. Benjamin Franklin ‘Hawkeye’ Pierce – M*A*S*H, played by Alan Alda. Hawkeye is a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during the Korean War and served at the Mobile Army Surgical Hospital.

2. The Hill Brothers – Enlisted, played by Geoff Stults, Chris Lowell and Parker Young. Pete is a Staff Sergeant at Fort McGee in Florida where his brothers, Corporal Derrick Hill and Private First Class Randy Hill, are stationed. If you could not tell already, I am *still* not over the cancellation of this show.

3. The A-Team, played by George Peppard, Dirk Benedict, Mr. T and Dwight Schultz. This team included Lieutenant Colonel John ‘Hannibal’ Smith, Lieutenant Templeton ‘Faceman’ Peck, Sergeant First Class Bosco Albert ‘B.A.’ Baracus and Captain H.M. ‘Howling Mad’ Murdock. After being court-martialed for a crime they did not commit, they became mercenaries and helped people in need.

4. Tim Gutterson – Justified, played by Jacob Pitts. Before becoming a Deputy U.S. Marshall in Lexington, Kentucky, Tim was a U.S. Army Ranger trained sniper who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. The sound quality on this video is not great, but I love Tim’s line.

8 Awesome Coaches…

The NFL season is in full swing and my Philadelphia Eagles are 4-1. So, in honor of the awesome Chip Kelly, and in hopes of a win against the New York Giants on Sunday, this week’s list is my eight favorite TV coaches.

1. Ernie “Coach” Pantusso – Cheers, played by Nicholas Colasanto. Coach got his nickname from being the former third base coach of the Boston Red Sox baseball team. He was not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he had a great heart.

2. Sue Sylvester – Glee, played by Jane Lynch. Sue is the cheerleading coach for the William McKinley High School Cheerios. I would not say that Sue is the best coach, in terms of inspiring her athletes, but she does have a lot of trophies.

3. Hayden Fox – Coach, played by Craig T. Nelson. Hayden was the head coach of the Minnesota State Screaming Eagles Football Team before being hired as the head coach of an NFL expansion team, the Orlando Breakers. He often had to deal with the issues of his fellow coaches more than his players. This clip does not really feature Nelson, but is just a funny scene from the show.

4. Math Rogers – Life Unexpected, played by Austin Basis. In addition to being a math teacher, Rogers also coached the Westmonte High School JV Girls Basketball Team. They did not win many games but they always had a good time.

8 Random Things That Make Me Happy…

Every once in a while, I have a rough week and need some cheering up. This happened to be one of those weeks as I lost one of my dear friends, so I thought I would share a few things from this week that made me smile and a few oldies that I use when I need to lift my spirits.

1. Charlie Hunnam’s Message for the Sons of Anarchy Comic-Con Panel For some reason, the actor was not able to be at the final Comic-Con panel for the show last weekend, so he sent this message to the fans.

2. Brian Williams Rapping Every single time The Tonight Show makes one of these videos, I pretty much watch it daily for about a week. I adore Brian Williams and they just keep getting better and better.

3. Justin Theroux drank a Yuengling on The Leftovers This probably excited me more than it should have, but that lager made this Philly girl very happy.

4. Enlisted Clips I am still not over the fact that Fox canceled this show and have my fingers crossed that something works out with Yahoo Screen. Aside from randomly watching clips, I also may have watched each episode more than once on Hulu.

8 Things I Am Most Looking Forward to at ATX Television Festival Season Three…

I was so lucky to have gotten involved with the ATX Television Festival before the first year and have looked forward to this weekend every year since! In case you do not already know, the festival brings together actors, writers, directors, producers, music supervisors, studio executives and fans to talk about the past, present and future of television here in Austin, Texas. From June 5-8, there will be screenings, panels, parties and live music with some of the industry’s leading professionals. There are SO MANY awesome things going on over the weekend, but this is what I am most looking forward to, in no particular order.

1. Hey Dude Reunion – I loved this show growing up and would watch the reruns on Nickelodeon whenever they were on. I remember wanting to be just like Brad and if there had been dude ranches in Philadelphia, I probably would have wanted to work at one. Just watch out for those man-eatin’ jackrabbits and those killer cacti!

2. Friday Night Lights Outdoor Screening – This is my favorite event every year. What could be better than watching Tim Riggins on a big screen out under the Texas sky?! This year there will also be great music from Sarah Watkins and Guiney & Grimes before the sun goes down.

3. Henry Winkler – ATX is presenting the first ever Achievement in Television Excellence award at this year’s festival and Mr. Winkler is the perfect recipient. His body of work encompasses the standards that drive ATX Television Festival: genuine, thoughtful, expansive, and most importantly, entertaining. His conversation with Royal Pains Executive Producer Michael Rauch is sure to be something you do not want to miss!

4. The Awesome Food and Drink Sponsors – Since I work all weekend from about 9 a.m. to whenever the party stops each night (or I fall asleep standing up), I pretty much live off of this food for four days. This year that includes KIND Snacks, Cornucopia popcorn, Blue Bell ice cream, Cuvée Coffee, Topo Chico, Tito’s Vodka, Bulleit Bourbon, Treaty Oak Rum and Waterloo Gin.

8 Shows You Should Be Watching…

1. Enlisted – The cast is hilarious, the writing is amazing and the show has so much heart. It deals with real issues of PTSD, but is also basically just an office comedy at the center. All of the episodes are on Hulu and Fox.com and there are FOUR episodes left to air this season! You will laugh. You will cry. You will want to hang out with the cast and crew during their weekly live-tweets.

2. Masters of Sex  – I absolutely loved the first season of this Showtime show. The cast performances were fantastic and the fact that it is based on real people made it incredibly fascinating to me. Season Two premieres in July, so you have plenty of time to catch up!

3. Trophy Wife – The title of this show does not do it justice and was actually always meant to be ironic. Malin Ackerman plays Bradley Whitford’s very hot third wife, but she also tries extremely hard to be a good mom and is actually in love with her older husband, not just married for the money. This is another comedy where every member of the ensemble was so well cast and has great chemistry.

4. Orphan Black – Even though this show is getting rave reviews from critics, I feel like the general public has still not yet caught on to its amazingness. You will get hooked by the first episode and proudly proclaim yourself part of the Clone Club. Season Two premieres on April 19th and I am unabashedly excited.
