Outlander

Quotes of the Week: May 24-31

These are my favorite quotes from the past week, not just from shows currently on the air, but also other random things I happen to be watching.

Game of Thrones
Cersei: Look at me! Look at my face. It’s the last thing you’ll see before you die.

Community
Elroy: This is a man that knows how to marry his cousin!

Bones
Brennan: I realize how quickly relationships can change and how important it is to value those you have right now.

Lost Girl
Oracles: Only in the darkness can we see the light.

Outlander
Jamie: You cannot save a man that doesn’t want saving.

Orphan Black
Felix: You need bangs. Bangs that say, ‘unhappy, sexless marriage.’

Alison: Holy frickin’ Christmas cake.

Alison: Family. That’s my agenda. Sometimes, family is more than just the people under your roof. They’re people who jump in head-first, who aren’t afraid to make fools of themselves to help you, who don’t hide their faces in shame if you fall down. If your family is suddenly bigger than you expected and your house gets too crowded, do you tell your family that they need to find a different place to live? You make room. You adapt. You find creative solutions to keep people together.

Quotes of the Week: May 3-9

These are my favorite quotes from the past week, not just from shows currently on the air, but also other random things I happen to be watching.

Once Upon a Time
Author: It’s a shame. I mean, writing a happy ending for the Evil Queen? Well, you…you’ve always been a favorite of mine. Very clear goals plus totally damaged personality with a self-destructive streak? A recipe for compelling. And, of all the characters I’ve written for, you really do get screwed over the most.
Regina: I’m well aware.

Cora: The only one standing in the way of your happiness is you.

Outlander
Jamie: I could bear pain myself but, I could not bear yours. It would take more strength than I have.

Ian: Well, if you’re goin’ to hell, I might as well go too. God knows, you’ll never manage alone.

Jane the Virgin
Xo: I thought you hated plays.
Rogelio: No, it’s different. Cool people like Bradley Cooper do Broadway now.

Narrator: Okay, that is definitely cute. I *do* love ducks.

New Girl
Winston: If I were off my rocker, would I take a weekly selfie with my cat?

Schmidt: Coach, I used to wish that you were uglier. I don’t wish that anymore. I only wish you the best.

The Flash
Joe: I can’t believe I’m down here looking for a supernatural gorilla. I’m terrified of *regular* gorillas.

The Goldbergs
Bill: We have a saying in Texas: Don’t blame the armadillo. Blame the armadillo’s dumb father.
Murray: We have a saying here: You’re bald!

Murray: This schmuck lives in Philadelphia, yet he roots for the Dallas Cowboys! Who does that?

The Vampire Diaries
Stefan: You can’t do this for me or for her. You have to want to be human for yourself.

Stefan: Uh oh, Elena’s human again. Am I sensing another brother swap?

Grace and Frankie
Grace: If anybody’s gonna sit on Ryan Gosling’s face, it’s gonna be me!

Frankie: What brand would you smoke if your husband turned out to be gay?
Store Clerk: Newports
Frankie: For the last twenty years.
Store Clerk: Luckys

Quotes of the Week: April 12-18

These are my favorite quotes from the past week, not just from shows currently on the air, but also other random things I happen to be watching.

Once Upon a Time
Mr. Gold: Maybe you should take a piece of advice from a man who has pushed away every chance at happiness because it was never enough. If it’s within your grasp, if you know where it is and who it’s with, then you should run to it, grasp it and never let it go.

Game of Thrones
Daenerys: Angry snakes lash out. Makes chopping off their heads that much easier.

Varys: You could help another climb those steps and take that seat. The Seven Kingdoms need someone stronger than Tommen, but gentler than Stanis. A monarch who can intimidate the high lords and inspire the people. A ruler loved by millions with a powerful army and the right family name.
Tyrion: Good luck finding him.
Varys: Who said anything about ‘him.’

Outlander
Jamie: You’re not normally a close-mouthed woman, Claire. I expected noisier displeasure… but, quiet anger can be very effective.

The Originals
Davina: It must *really* suck to have to be you all the time.
Klaus: It hasn’t been a picnic, honestly.

Jane the Virgin
Rogelio: Who cares if your eggs are too old. We’ll buy new ones.

The Flash
Caitlin: Is that a bird?
Cisco: It’s a plane.
Felicity: It’s my boyfriend.

Felicity: It’s kinda like I’m dating Barry, but in Oliver’s body.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
May: You’re worried that I don’t understand your choice. Well, sometimes that’s the price of doing the right thing. No one will understand, and it hurts like hell.

Quotes of the Week: April 5-11

These are my favorite quotes from the past week, not just from shows currently on the air, but also other random things I happen to be watching.

The Good Wife
Diane: The law is supposed to be fair, not impersonal.

The Originals
Klaus: Honestly, it’s all temper and no timing with this one. I, for one, am glad you gave her away so that I could be born. You should think of me as an upgrade.

Jane the Virgin
Narrator: There is a famous saying: if you can’t be with the one you love, love the identical twin of the guy you were cheating with.

Outlander
Jamie: I swear on the cross of my Lord Jesus, and by the holy iron which I hold, that I give you my fealty and pledge you my loyalty. If ever my hand is raised in rebellion against you again, then I ask that this holy iron may piece my heart.

Jamie: Seems I cannot possess your soul without losing my own.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Coulson: You always travel with whiskey and shot glasses?
Hunter: Never know when you need something to keep you warm on a cold night.
Coulson: Two glasses?
Hunter: The other one’s for the person keeping me warm…but in your case I’ll make an exception.

New Girl
Fawn: You don’t really strike me as the “networking” type. You’re more of a “follow a butterfly around for a day” kinda gal.

Schmidt: How about a fake beard? Get some double-sided tape, we can shave Winston’s cat…

iZombie
Blaine: I made you a zombie, but I would never make you a whore.

Younger
Maggie: Last time I was in New Jersey, it was illegal to pump your own gas.
Liza: It still is.
Maggie: Still? So, same-sex marriage is legal, but pumping your own gas isn’t?
Liza: Yup.
Maggie: I like New Jersey!

12 Monkeys
Ramse: It took time travel to create time travel. There are no straight lines.

8 Christian Characters…

It is the season of Lent and Easter is just five weeks away. Since I gave you my list of favorite Jewish characters during Rosh Hashanah, I decided now would be a great time for my list of favorite Christian television characters.

1. Alba Villanueva – Jane the Virgin played by Ivonne Coll.
Jane’s grandmother is a devout Catholic and sharing her faith with her family was important to her. It did not really stick with her daughter, Xiomara, but Jane took it very seriously.

2. President Josiah Bartlett – The West Wing played by Martin Sheen.
A graduate of the Univeristy of Notre Dame, he quoted scripture often (sometimes in Latin) and even considered becoming a priest before going into politics.

3. Coach and Tami Taylor – Friday Night Lights played by Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton.
Their religion was not something they talked about all the time, but they went to church every Sunday and they always tried to instill their morals in their own children and the students they worked with every day.

4. Harriet Hayes – Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip played by Sarah Paulson.
She was the only Christian on the cast for a SNL-like live sketch comedy show. One of my favorite Harriet lines is from the end of the second episode during a pre-show pep-talk: “We say this prayer in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who had to have been funny to get so many people to listen to him.”

8 Romantic Couples…

Valentine’s Day is on Saturday and, even though no one will be sending me flowers this weekend, I can still appreciate a good romance. It would have been impossible to create a list of my favorite couples of *all time* so, instead, I just chose couples from shows that are currently on TV.

1. Beverly and Murray – The Goldbergs
I love these two so much. They do not often express their love for each other with words, but you know that the love is always there.

2. Patrick and Kevin – Looking
Even though they seem to be split up for the moment, I am guessing that things are not over for good. I just think that they are really adorable together and Kevin needs to get his shit together, break-up with his boyfriend and just be with Patrick.

3. Octavia and Lincoln – The 100
Okay, so Lincoln may currently be addicted to some drug that the Mount Weather folks gave him but, they continue to fight for each other through everything and I believe that their love is strong.

4. Mickey and Ian – Shameless
I have loved this couple from the very beginning of the series. You can tell that they really care for each other. They are currently going through a bit of a rough patch, but they always seem to find their way back.

8 Returning Mid-Season Shows…

Last week, I shared my list of new shows that I am most excited about, so here are the returning shows that I cannot wait to have back on my television in the next few months.

1. Shameless season five premieres January 11 on Showtime, stars William H. Macy, Emmy Rossum, Jeremy Allen White, Cameron Monaghan, Emma Kenney, Ethan Cutkosky, Shanola Hampton, Steve Howey, Joan Cusack, Noel Fisher and Emily Bergl. Somehow, this is still one of the most under-rated shows on TV. What are you all waiting for?! I love the Gallaghers so much. They make me laugh and they make me cry and I cannot wait to see what craziness they get up to now that it is summer in Chicago! Frank has a new liver, so anything is possible.

2. Justified the final season premieres January 20 on FX, stars Timothy Olyphant, Walton Goggins, Joelle Carter, Nick Searcy, Jacob Pitts, Erica Tazel and Jere Burns. I am very sad to be losing another one of my favorite shows, but I will say the same thing that I said about Sons of Anarchy in September: I do not want it to be over, but I also cannot wait to see what happens! Will Ava help the Marshals with their RICO case? Will Tim continue to be awesome? Will Raylan and Boyd finally take each other out? I am already on the edge of my seat filled with anticipation.

3. The Americans season three premieres January 28 on FX, stars Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys, Noah Emmerich, Annet Mahendru, Susan Misner, Alison Wright, Richard Thomas, Holly Taylor and Keidrich Sellati. This is another under-rated show that more people need to be watching. It is not a show that I necessarily need to keep up with every single week, but when I finally sit down and watch it, I am always impressed with the story-telling and the performances.

4. Suits the second half of season four premieres January 28 on USA, stars Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Rick Hoffman, Meghan Markle, Sarah Rafferty and Gina Torres. The beginning of this season spent a little much time with Mike working against Harvey as a investment banker, but now he is finally back at the law firm and Louis has discovered his secret. I am pretty sure that Pearson Specter is about the get “Litt the Hell Up.”

8 of My Favorite 2014 Episodes…

Here are my favorite episodes of television from the past year in no particular order. There is so much good television happening right now, that it took me a while to whittle down this list and I am sure I still forgot a few. I do not think that they are necessarily the BEST episodes from the year, just my favorites. Be forewarned, there are plenty of spoilers ahead.

1. The Good Wife “The Last Call” The death of Will Gardner was this year’s best kept secret and I have only recently started to get over the loss of this character. The episode dealt with the aftermath of that death and the performances were just brilliant. Not only did they kill off this beloved character, but they killed off the notion that a show can not survive without a love story.

2. Playing House “Bosephus and the Catfish” What’s not to love about a woman dressing up like a male trucker to make sure that her brother is not getting catfished by his new internet girlfriend?! I am beyond excited that the USA Network came to their senses and finally renewed this hilarious show! My goal for 2015 is to become best friends with Lennon Parham and Jessica St. Clair.

3. Orphan Black “Knowledge of Causes, and Secret Motion of Things” Holy Tilda Swinton, do I love this show! It took me forever to decide which was my favorite episode of season two but I finally settled on this one, mostly because I love watching Vic get beat up. This episode also had lots of Felix and Alison together, as well as Sarah pretending to be Alison pretending to be Donnie, which just makes me so happy.

4. Game of Thrones “The Watchers on the Wall” I loved that this episode focused solely on Jon Snow and the battle between the Night’s Watch and the Wildlings. Even though they are outnumbered, the black brothers must defend Castle Black from Mance Rayder’s massive army, who attack the fortress from the north, while another band of wildlings launches a surprise attack from the south of the Wall. It was epic and made me finally appreciate the amazingness of Kit Harington.

8 Things For Which I Am Thankful…

Thanksgiving is next week and instead of bringing you a standard list of favorite themed episodes, I thought I would give you my list of television related things for which I am most thankful this year.

1. Generous Friends
This is definitely number one. As a girl on a budget, I cannot always afford to pay for the premium channels or live in a place where I can choose my cable provider, so I have to rely on the generosity of great friends to help get me access to a few of my favorite shows, without which I would not be able to watch things like Outlander or Kingdom.

2. A Darker, Twistier Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
I enjoyed the first season, but it did take a little while for them to find their way. They picked up steam at the end of last year and are powering through this season at full speed. The tone is a little darker, which I love, and the character development has been amazing.

3. Kurt Sutter
Sutter and his Sons of Anarchy writer’s continue to blow my mind each week and I cannot believe there are only two episodes left! Although, sometimes I worry about which lines and situations on the show make me laugh. I find Tig’s sense of humor to be totally crazy and sometimes creepy but always hilarious…and that scares me just a little.

4. Jane the Virgin
This is absolutely my favorite new show this fall. It is well-written and funny and I love it more with each episode. Also, for the record, I am on Team Rafael.
