These are my favorite quotes from the past week, mostly from shows currently on the air, but also other random things I happen to be watching.

Victoria
Queen Victoria: I would like my reign to be a merciful one.

The Royals
Eleanor: We have to trust somebody sometime, right?

Supergirl
Winn: I’m not the red shirt! I’m not the red shirt! You! You’re the red shirt!

Timeless
Wyatt: Why is everyone looking at us like they want to kill us?
Bass Reeves: Because the two of us are black, and one’s Indian.
Rufus: Huh. So, it’s like the scary version of Blazing Saddles.

Bass Reeves: Who the hell ever said “easy” and “right” were the same thing?

The West Wing
President Bartlet: The only thing you ever had to do to make me happy is come home at the end of the day.

The Flash
Barry: See, I’m livin’ with somebody now, so I can’t have criminals constantly interrupting our alone time.

H.R.: I think that a man often meets his destiny on the very road he takes to avoid it.

8 Returning Mid-Season Shows…

I know you have all been waiting for this, so here is my list of returning shows that I am most looking forward to in 2017. Sometimes, I look back at these lists and mourn the shows we have lost too soon or found their natural end. Hopefully, there are not too many of them this year.

1. BONES, season 12 premieres January 3rd on Fox, Emily Deschanel, David Boreanaz, Michaela Conlin, T.J. Thyne, Tamara Taylor, John Boyd, Patricia Belcher, Michael Grant Terry, Eugene Byrd, Carla Gallo, Pej Vahdat, Ryan O’Neal, Joel David Moore, Ignacio Serricchio, Laura Spencer, and Eric Milligan. In this final season premiere, Dr. Brennan has been kidnapped by former squintern Zack Addy. No one knows what Zack is up to, but Agents Booth and Aubrey, with the help of the Jeffersonian team, must find her and bring her home safely. This has never been one of my “must-watch” shows, but it has been consistently well-written, and the chemistry among the entire cast is always excellent. I am interested to see how they bring this series to a close.

2. HOMELAND, season 6 premieres January 15th on Showtime, stars Claire Danes, Mandy Patinkin, Rupert Friend, F. Murray Abraham, Sebastian Koch, and Elizabeth Marvel. Carrie is back in the United States with Franny, and is working as an advocate for Muslim Americans. Saul and the CIA have a new President-Elect to brief, and she is not necessarily on their side. Quinn is awake, and dealing with the reality of his health situation. It all sounds like it might hit a little too close to home for our country right now, which means it should definitely be an interesting season.

3. MERCY STREET, season 2 premieres January 22nd on PBS, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, AnnaSophia Robb, McKinley Belcher III, Patina Miller, Hannah James, Norbert Leo Butz, Josh Radnor, Lyne Renée, Tara Summers, Bryce Pinkham, L. Scott Caldwell, Brían F. O’Byrne, Luke Macfarlane, Jack Falahee, Donna Murphy, Brad Koed, Gary Cole, Suzanne Bertish, Shalita Grant, and Peter Gerety. I did not watch the first season as it aired, but once I realized what a fantastic cast it had, I decided I need to give it a try. Set during the Civil War, this show takes places at a hospital in Virginia, where both Union and Confederate soldiers are treated. The nurses, doctors, and the freed slaves that work at the hospital all have differing views about what it means to do good during this time of conflict. The second season picks up in June of 1862 and everyone is realizing that things in the country are going to get much worse before they get better.

4. OUTSIDERS, season 2 premieres January 24th on WGN America, stars David Morse, Ryan Hurst, Kyle Gallner, Thomas M. Wright, Gillian Alexy, Joe Anderson, and Christina Jackson. The first season ended with a stand-off on the mountain between the Farrells and the local law enforcement and, from the trailer, it looks like there will be a pretty epic fight in the first episode back. The coal company and the town are still looking for a way to contain the Farrells, which causes some fighting within the clan. I loved the first season, and this second one looks even more action-packed, so I am very excited to see what happens next.

Quotes of the Week: End of Summer

These are my favorite quotes from the end of the summer. Like with everything else, I got a bit distracted and lost track of this list, so here are just a few fun things from the last few months and from the first week of Fall TV.

UnReal
Quinn: Loose lips get water-boarded and their bodies get dumped in the desert.

Zoo
Allison: This is a change. And we both know you don’t handle change well.
Mitch: No, and in some tautological Rubik’s cube of logic, I wish that I could change my aversion to change, but that, in and of itself, would require…change.

Democratic National Convention
Hillary Clinton: When there are no ceilings, the sky’s the limit.

The Great British Baking Show
Sue: Don’t let a fondant tennis court be the end of you.

Preacher
Cassidy: The last time I checked, this kinda questioning is illegal.
Sheriff Root: Not in Texas.

Quotes of the Week: June 28-July 11

These are my favorite quotes from the past two weeks, not just from shows currently on the air, but also other random things I happen to be watching.

Poldark
Charles Poldark: She is a plain girl, and that makes her easy prey.

The Last Ship
Jed Chandler: Whether you like it or not, you’re Noah, and that ship is your ark.

UnREAL
Shia: You could make a perfectly happy person jump off a bridge.
Quinn: Thank you!

Zoo
Mitch: Usually when a girl gives me her phone number, it doesn’t have anything to do with rampaging lions.

Suits
Gretchen: It doesn’t take Albert Einstein to figure out why you hired somebody who looks like me to replace somebody who looks like her.
Harvey: Listen, Gretchen, I…
Gretchen: You don’t have to worry about that with me. I prefer my men manly.
Harvey: Am I not manly?
Gretchen: Well…if you have to ask.

Mr. Robot
Mr. Robot: The world is a dangerous place, Elliot! Not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing!

The Astronaut Wives Club
Scott: If you want people to know the real you, you gotta let ’em actually see it.

Scott: Life’s not about repeating what you’ve already done or regretting the way you did things the first time around. It’s about moving on. Moving forward. Stayin’ you.

Killjoys
John: I have to go see a girl about an ear.

The Last Ship
Captain Chandler: They don’t ambush us. We ambush them.

Ravit: I like you guys. You’re crazy.

Orange Is The New Black
Taystee: You know what I hate? Shrimps. Damn, dirty shrimps. Don’t even talk to me about shrimps!

Quotes of the Week: June 14-27

These are my favorite quotes from the past two weeks, not just from shows currently on the air, but also other random things I happen to be watching.

Sense8
Riley: Death doesn’t let you say goodbye.

UnReal
Jeremy: You wouldn’t be here if you didn’t like the taste of blood.

Orange Is The New Black
Crazy Eyes: I will potato her at a future time.

Sister Jane: Thou shalt not make musical references!

Jack: What seems to be the problem there?
Piper: The thermal fuse blew.
Jack: And you can fix that by yourself, honey?
Piper: Well, I sure can, if I concentrate *extra* hard with my lady brain

Scott: In your heart of hearts, you know as well as I do, red velvet is bullshit! It tastes like play-doh. It is not velvety. And the only thing that’s good about it is the cream cheese frosting, which is meant to live on top of carrot cake like God intended!

Orphan Black
Crystal: Why do weird things keep happening to me?!

Jesse: Holy moly.
Helena: Yes, much moly.

Alison: Thank you, seestras, for your bravery, for protecting us, for making us feel normal. I know that whatever comes next, we’ll face it together, as a family.

8 Sensates…

The newest Netflix show Sense8 is about eight uniquely different people from all around the world that start seeing and hearing things that they have not experienced themselves. They each have specific talents and often help each other out of their individual predicaments by being able to share senses within their group. It sounds super complicated, but is actually a really great show that you should be watching.

Inspired by this show, I decided to make a list of TV characters that would make a good group of Sensates. I admit that I am totally stealing this idea from Todd VanDerWerff and it was not as easy as I thought it would be. Trying to come up with a list of people that all have different skills which compliment each other was incredibly difficult. I also decided to leave out anyone who came by their gifts supernaturally, because that just opened an entirely different can of worms.

1. Cosima Niehaus – Orphan Black
She has Ph.D. in Experimental Evolutionary Developmental Biology, which basically means she likes to make crazy science, but she will also keep everyone mellow.

2. Mike Ross – Suits
He may not be a real lawyer, but he can pull it off because he has a photographic memory.

3. Melinda May a.k.a. “The Cavalry” – Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
She is smart, resourceful, knows how to fly a plane and will kick your ass if you mess with her.

4. Rickie Vasquez – My So-Called Life
He is brave, compassionate and protective of his friends, but also has a flare for the dramatic.

8 Returning Summer Shows…

This list was actually harder to create than I thought it would be, considering summer is usually the slow season. There is just too much good TV and I ended up excluding several of my favorite shows.

1. Halt and Catch Fire season two premieres May 31 on AMC, stars Lee Pace, Scoot McNairy, Mackenzie Davis, Kerry Bishé, Toby Huss, and Aleksa Palladino. The second season jumps ahead to 1985 and focuses on Mutiny, the company started by Cameron and her group of online gamers. The first season of this show was not spectacular, but I am hearing great things about a new season reboot.

2. The Last Ship season two premieres June 21 on TNT, stars Eric Dane, Rhona Mitra, Adam Baldwin, Travis Van Winkle, Marissa Neitling, Christina Elmore, Charles Parnell, Jocko Sims, and John Pyper-Ferguson. At the end of season one, the crew of the USS Nathan James arrived in Baltimore with the cure, only to find that things had changed in ways they never expected. This show is just a lot of fun. What could be better than cute boys (and girls, for those so inclined) in uniforms saving the world from a deadly virus?

3. Suits season five premieres June 24 on USA, stars Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Gina Torres, Meghan Markle, Rick Hoffman, and Sarah Rafferty. Mike and Rachel are engaged. Donna has left Harvey to work for Louis. Jessica is still awesome. And I cannot wait to see what will happen next at Pearson Specter Litt.

4. Rectify season three premieres July 9 on Sundance, stars Aden Young, Abigail Spencer, J. Smith-Cameron, Adelaide Clemens, Clayne Crawford, Jake Austin Walker, Bruce McKinnon, Luke Kirby, Carl Daggett, and Kerwin Whitman. I have to be honest, I still have a few episodes from last season that I still need to watch, so I am not totally sure what is happening on the show this season. What I do know is that this show is beautifully acted and brilliantly written and you should join me in getting caught up before the new season starts!

About a Boy
Fiona: “Oh, cabbage. You are not what men want.”

Fiona: “Right. Now you’re gonna get a lecture: 1. you’re a rubbish chaperone; 2. you are a *very* poor judge of character; 3. you’re far too tall, Sasquatch; 4. you’re an idiot; 5. snip, snip, snip on your eyebrows, okay? 6. your hair’s too big and it’s not the humidity!”

Agent Carter
Peggy: “Have you ever been hanged, Mr. Jarvis?”
Jarvis: “I can’t say that I have, no.”
Peggy: “It is quite unpleasant!”

Dooley: “I’m supposed to believe that you pulled off your own investigation without any of us noticing.”
Sousa: “Why would you go through all that trouble instead of coming to one of us?”
Peggy: “I conducted my own investigation because no one listens to me. I got away with it because no one looks at me. Because, unless I have your reports, your coffee or your lunch, I am invisible!”

Peggy: “I’ve just thought of something.”
Jarvis: “We’re still attached to a table.”
Peggy: ” We are *still* attached to a table.”

Donna: “You know what? It’s the 7th of kiss my ass and tomorrow’s the 8th of set your own goddamn meetings.”
Harvey: “Is that the Mayan calendar?”
Donna: “Nope. That’s the Donna calendar.”

Harvey: “Who is *she*?”
Mike: “That’s that lawyer.”
Harvey: “Why didn’t you tell me she was hot?”
Mike: “Because it’s not relevant?”
Harvey: “It is to me.”
Mike: “Why?”
Harvey: “Because she’s hot.”

The Vampire Diaries
Damon: “Today isn’t the worst day of your life. Today and tomorrow, that’s a cake walk. There’ll be people around you day in and day out, like they’re afraid to leave you alone. The worst day? That’s next week. When there’s nothing but quiet.”

Jo: “You can’t throw a pity proposal at a pregnant, ex-witch!”

Hart of Dixie
Wade: “Life was so much simpler before you and I became friends.”

Gilmore Girls
Reverend: “You know, Rory, being a young lady comes with many gifts. Your virtue, for example, is a gift. A precious gift. Possibly the most precious gift you possess.”
Rory: “Uh-huh?”
Reverend: “You wanna give this gift very carefully. It is a gift you can only give to one man. Once you give it, it’s gone. You can’t re-gift it. If you give it away too soon, to the wrong man, then when the right one does come along, you have no gift to give. You’ll have to buy him a sweater. Do you understand what I’m saying?”
Rory: “No.”
Reverend: “Think long and hard about when and to whom you want to give the ultimate gift you have to give away.”
Rory: “Oh.”
Reverend: “Yes.”
Rory: “Oh, dear.”
Reverend: “Oh, dear, indeed.”
Rory: “Uhm, well, listen, Reverend, I really appreciate you taking the time out of, what I assume is, a busy day, to come here and talk to me about all of this, but I’m afraid the ultimate gift ship has sailed.”
Reverend: “What?”
Rory: “A while ago. It’s probably in Fiji by now.”

12 Monkeys
Striking Woman: “You’re walking through a red forest and the grass is tall.”

Cole: “Everybody’s got two wolves inside ’em and both of ’em are starving. One wolf is anger, envy, pride. The other is truth, kindness. Everyday they tear each other apart, but it’s not the better wolf that wins, it’s the one you feed.”

8 Returning Mid-Season Shows…

Last week, I shared my list of new shows that I am most excited about, so here are the returning shows that I cannot wait to have back on my television in the next few months.

1. Shameless season five premieres January 11 on Showtime, stars William H. Macy, Emmy Rossum, Jeremy Allen White, Cameron Monaghan, Emma Kenney, Ethan Cutkosky, Shanola Hampton, Steve Howey, Joan Cusack, Noel Fisher and Emily Bergl. Somehow, this is still one of the most under-rated shows on TV. What are you all waiting for?! I love the Gallaghers so much. They make me laugh and they make me cry and I cannot wait to see what craziness they get up to now that it is summer in Chicago! Frank has a new liver, so anything is possible.

2. Justified the final season premieres January 20 on FX, stars Timothy Olyphant, Walton Goggins, Joelle Carter, Nick Searcy, Jacob Pitts, Erica Tazel and Jere Burns. I am very sad to be losing another one of my favorite shows, but I will say the same thing that I said about Sons of Anarchy in September: I do not want it to be over, but I also cannot wait to see what happens! Will Ava help the Marshals with their RICO case? Will Tim continue to be awesome? Will Raylan and Boyd finally take each other out? I am already on the edge of my seat filled with anticipation.

3. The Americans season three premieres January 28 on FX, stars Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys, Noah Emmerich, Annet Mahendru, Susan Misner, Alison Wright, Richard Thomas, Holly Taylor and Keidrich Sellati. This is another under-rated show that more people need to be watching. It is not a show that I necessarily need to keep up with every single week, but when I finally sit down and watch it, I am always impressed with the story-telling and the performances.

4. Suits the second half of season four premieres January 28 on USA, stars Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Rick Hoffman, Meghan Markle, Sarah Rafferty and Gina Torres. The beginning of this season spent a little much time with Mike working against Harvey as a investment banker, but now he is finally back at the law firm and Louis has discovered his secret. I am pretty sure that Pearson Specter is about the get “Litt the Hell Up.”

8 Opening Credits That I Always Watch…

These days, a lot of shows do not really have a full opening theme, they just have a name card, but I really enjoy credits when they are done correctly. Most of my choices are due mainly to the music used for each show and sometimes it is hard to pinpoint exactly what about each one I enjoy, but they all make me really happy when I watch them…and I always watch these.

1. Grey’s Anatomy I am obviously referring to the original credits, as now they just flash the name of the show with random hospital sounds in the background. I just thought that they were creative and fit the mood of the show. I am not sure why they stopped using them, but I still miss them.

2. Jack & Bobby The music is from the movie The Patriot and was composed by the amazing John Williams. I love the combination of this soundtrack with clips of former U.S. Presidents speaking.

3. Deadwood This one is actually the ringtone on my phone. I love the music and the images used. It is beautiful, sexy and captivating.

4. Suits I am not really sure what it is about this one that I enjoy so much. I just think the music and the lyrics in the song really fit with the show. Love that Greenback Boogie!
